1. About CBT & EMDR Therapy
Nobody chose their problems from a shop shelf. They are not your fault.

You are not faulty nor broken.
Feeling as you do IS for a reason. Emotions get louder, until they are heard.

On CBT
Uncomfortable emotions are like dashboard lights. They signal something important. In Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) we use that information to change discomfort into times when new tools & techniques can be practiced, so a person can move themselves, with support, towards achieving their goals & feeling better. There is a powerful 3-way connection between what we do, think and feel. CBT taps into this... by changing what we do & how we think; we can change how we then feel, for the better.

On EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a clinical treatment effective in repairing emotional injury from traumatic experiences. I mean events like industrial or road traffic accidents, assault, war trauma, torture, natural or man-made disasters, sexual abuse and childhood neglect. I find EMDR a quicker and less uncomfortable way for people to overcome trauma difficulties than CBT.

2. About Tony
I like to be kind & helpful. I feel very lucky to have learnt some amazing ways to help people over the
years. I must clarify that I don't diagnose people. What I can do in many cases is to help reduce symptoms; from illness severity down to normal levels, within 8 sessions (on average). It is wonderful to support people to get back on track, or even better than before.

Career
With over 35 years of experience in mental health, I bring a wealth of knowledge, compassion, and dedication to my work as a therapist. My career began as a Psychiatric Nurse, where I developed a strong foundation in patient care. I've been BABCP-Accredited as a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist (CBT) since 2005. Over the years, I've honed my skills in CBT, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)-evidence-based approaches, that I use to help clients overcome challenges and rebuild their lives.

While I have held management and technology-focused roles, my passion has always been for direct patient care. This deep commitment to helping others led me to refocus my career entirely on providing one-on-one therapy, where I can truly make a difference in people's lives.

My approach blends proven therapeutic techniques with a warm, collaborative style, creating a safe space where people can recover and revitalise. Whether you're navigating anxiety or low mood, trauma or other personal struggles, I am here to help you move toward a more fulfilling and balanced life.

3. Specialism
Do you struggle with over-thinking or over-working?

Although experienced at helping with a wide range of mental health difficulties, I have the most tools in my toolbox for those two things.

Personal Experience
I like to test techniques on me, not just trust a text book that they work. Being a therapist & nurse does not make a person immune from health problems. I believe my previous mental health problems with depression, anxiety, burnout and PTSD help me now be a more understanding and compassionate therapist.

As an ultra-runner & former national gold medalist in Tae Kwon Do; I also enjoy helping folk with the unique challenges faced by elite sports competitors.

4. Testimonials
Here are my two favourite recent messages from people at treatment end, shared with their permission...

Ashia (not her real name)
"I've found it so helpful, I've spoken to so many counsellors over the years and I've found your approach so relatable, the stories, and that's helped me learn the tools and apply the tools, and learn when to use them".

George (not his real name)
"I thank you lots for your help. It’s been some of the most impactful therapy I’ve ever done. It’s been highly meaningful to speak to someone who for the first time understands how I see the world. I recall you saying how you cheered me on in a certain situation I mentioned & this was the nicest thing anybody had said to me in ages (as an example). Best of luck with your 2025, and what you have in store for it (I recall you mentioning ultra running!!) What a fantastic impact you have on people in work, and no doubt…outside of work!
Kindest Wishes,
George".
